Default Wheel Offset?

I am wheel shopping and currently found some 19" x 8.5 wheels with 42 offset. Now that sounds allot more than the 35 factory offset I have been trying to stick to, my knowledge on offset differences is minimal so i am not sure if a 42 offset(on B7) is just too much? Any clarification is appreciated.

Do you have a buyer for your current wheels once you get your replacements? I am interested.

No I currently do not. I am not too sure if I am going to just store the originals or sell them once I get new wheels but if i decide to sell them I promise to check with you first. Thanks.

You should be ok with that offset. the 8.5 inch wheels will be closer to the spindle if the same offset is used, so the increased offset should help move it away from the spindle some.

I have 38 offset on my B6, which fills out the wheelwells nicely but without risking rubbing. There's room to go out a little further, but 42 sounds like a bit much.

Just found this very handy offset calculator here. You enter the width and offset of the old and new wheels, and it tells you the exact impact on inner clearance and outer position.
