Default the search feature is awful

i have been a member of many forums over the years. nothing frustrates me more than seeing people post the same topic over and over. and, this forum is no different. the first response on half the threads i've read start with "search the board". sure, there are some lazy ppl that don't try. but, i have tried and have had VERY little success. what is the deal? as an example, i tried to do a search for "estimate" in the general tech forum. got nothing. i then tried a search on "sound" in the general tech forum in the title only. why? because i saw a thread title that included the word "sound". what was returned? 0 results. wtf? i see loads of good info by browsing the forum. but it sure is a pita. without a good search function, this board isn't a great resource.

It has worked sporadically for me. Sometimes gives useful results, other times says there is nothing when I know I have seen it.

I agree w/ techbod... what exactly are you searching for -
if your question is a little more specific & you've used the search feature -
go ahead & post the question in the appropriate thread....

techbod,
i'm not interested in breaks. but, fyi, it returns the same results as brakes. nothing.
hilarious how "suspention" returns a bunch of threads about suspension. but, "suspension" returns nothing

i3udda,
basically, that's what i'm doing.

i thought i was being specific enough by searching for "suspension" on the s car forum. i don't really want to be more specific. i'm interested in buying an s4. i want to know about the suspension. how well does the stock suspension perform? what are my upgrade options? what are the issues with both? just basic research. i wouldn't expect to have to get so specific. but, i'm making due. this is just the wackiest search feature i've ever seen on a forum.

btw, "stock suspension" returns nothing. "issues suspension" returns some results. "upgrade suspension" returns some results, including the thread i started asking about it 2 days before posting this thread. so, i can and have searched more specifically. and, posted a specific question. but, it's odd to have to do so and takes more time. but, as mentioned above, i am doing it. so, no worries. i just wish it was more functional and better serving.

i hope this is taken as constructive critism. i didn't just say "the search feature sucks". i took the time to explain what i wanted to do. what my experience was. and, what, specifically i tried and the results.

the site wasn't designed as a go and find, its here to help day to day problems ( perhaps you misunderstood the site functions ) you need other specific sites for that and no names mentioned
