Default What format should audiforums.com stick with?

I used to frequent a4forums.com which turned to become audilife.com. I guess they recently merged with this site, audiforums.com and now a4forums.com points here and audilife.com still points to the original site. Since most audilife.com users used the a4forums.com link audilife.com activity has died. The admin at audilife.com sounded as if the two sites were going to become one but they havent. I am suprised that audiforums.com has not taken advantage of the format that audilife.com had. vBulletin is a far superior and faster software than this one, but it seems all the users are still on audiforums.com. The users here seem great, but the software is so freaking slow I don't have the patience to post. I don't like all the people at AW and AZ and would like an alternative but my options now seem to be to slow or no users. I wish audiforums.com would push it's users onto the better software.

What do you think?

format it like

http://www.audilife.com

or keep it slow.

Good points, but.....

Although I will always advocate for speed, I did NOT like the "new" version that had the super-mini icons that looked like bulletin boards with pieces of paper tacked up. The papers and their color would change to identify a change in status for each particular forum. It was confusing and difficult to see/determine what meant what.

Sorry to hear that your experience is so slow. I have cable and am not so bothered by a one second delay (at most).

I agree with your obeservations re: the other forums and how the people here are great, but I have reservations about the merge bringing some of the undesirables of "audilife" over here. "Audilife" became more of a chat room rather than a sincere site for Audi enthusiast camaraderie and the dissemination of valuable information. Maybe we could have a "Lounge" or "Off-Topic" area reserved for that sort of banter.

This is a very slow forum - performance has degraded badly since the changeover. I do not like Audilife as a forum, though I cannot say that is the fault of the software as much as the people that hang there. Right now Audiforums is the site where most questions are honestly answered without the veteran members being asses. Audizine is still better than Audiworld, but still has its bad apples. Currently I don't think we have any bad apples - except Slimchriz of course.[8D]

Imolas, dude you're everywhere. I checked out the audilife site and the first post I check out., bam, Imolas. As for the forums, this is the only one to which I belong. I don't notice any sort of delay, but I am on a highspeed connection, so it's not a deal for me. Personally I like the way this site is formatted. I didn't realize that this site just merged with another. How exactly did that whole thing go down?

Yeah... I've been everywhere! I've been on some forums for a few years. There was a time when I would float between seven Audi forums each night! It would take me about an hour just to float through and read - without posting! That was when all I wanted to do was absorb everything. I just wanted to read and learn whatever I could. Now, I'm a bit tired of all that runnin' around. {You think?!!} Furthermore, I became disenchanted by a few forums and distanced myself from them after a while.

The merge was inevitable after there was a series of temper tantrums. It's a long story... It was mostly political between the originator and some of the moderators and the way things were handled between them on and off screen. The originator bowed out gracefully (?) and claimed it was time for him to move on to better and brighter avenues. It's open to anyone's interpretation as to what the truth may be, but at this point, it doesn't really matter. What's done is done.

I can only hope that the merge allows for the positive integeration of all that was good and that it purges all that was problematic.

Ahhh, say no more. I've seen that more than once. Well, I jinxed myself with the never seen any delay comment. I've had at least fifteen timeout messages since I posted that. And I can't send PM's now, they all timeout. Damn it, why did I have to say that. Now I'm all for the faster software. It's a pain to have to retype your posts two or three times.

I heard the admin banned all the "undesirables" before he left.

It took me 4 times to logon to this site because it kept timing out, I want to like this site, as I am sure a lot of the lurkers do. But, the speed, doesn't make it client friendly. I am sure audiforums.com is missing out on manyt new users and posters.

If we could get the good users from here on a faster site I am sure the posting would increase. I am going on audilife.com withdrawl.......
