Default *Pressure in Gas tank*

Hello everyone. I have been browsing the forums for a few days now and I have a question.

I recently purchased a 98 A4 1.8T, whenever I go to put gas in the car I am only able to do it in very short intervals. The reason is there is so much pressure in the gas tank its fooling the nozzle into thinking the tank is full. If I put more gas into the car after the nozzle and clicked off gas will pour out a little when I remove the nozzle and release the pressure. So bascially it takes me around 10 minutes to fill the gas tank because of these small intervals of fueling I am forced to do.

Is there a release valve in the gas tank in order to release the pressure? I have a bentley manual on the way but until then I was hoping to get the problem diagnosed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

I don't know if this will work too well, but maybe take the cap off and wait a while for the pressure to escape before you start filling? I know people have had this problem before, so I know someone knows how to remedy this.

its a common problem with many newer cars, you have to put the nozzle in and leave a gap in the filler neck to allow air to come out, many people push the nozzle too far in which causes a vacuum

I also own a 2000 Jetta and have no problem whatsoever filling it with gas so I know it isn't the nozzle being pushed in too far. I have also tried inserting the nozzle just enough for gas to go into the tank and it would still cut off.

There is an underlying problem to this and I am hoping someone has remedied this one. I read in another post about a line going to the gas tank that is bad and possbily causing the problem.

Thanks

has anyone tried to take gas out of the tank like syphon it because it can be done using a thin pipe " the problem it causes is it pulls the lower anti theft flap up when pulling the hose out " just a thought
