Default '01 A4 TBA ERROR help!!

Hi everyone.

Last week I accidentally left my interior lights on over night... I know, stupid me. Anyway, morning came and my battery was dead. After charging it, the car would start, sputter and fail. Ultimately stalling out.

I talked with my mechanic buddy, who said it was likely the throttle body needing adaptation. We tried a couple of manual things, which didn't work. So I ordered a VAG com and it just arrived today. I followed all of the Ross-tech instructions on doing a TBA, but the final box in the top right just continually says 'ERROR' instead of 'ADP RUN'. I've cleared out all of my DTC's like it said, but P1779 keeps popping up: "Adaptation not started".

I've been without my car for a week now, and would REALLY love to get her running again. From what I've read, these VAG coms are a God-send, but it looks like I still need a little old fashioned help in these here forums.

Help!! Please.

- Jesse

Perhaps I should note that prior to my battery dying, my engine ran without any problems. It ran a little rough, but the only code I was getting before this was telling me that an O2 sensor needed replacing. And I've had that code for about a year now, just haven't gotten to replacing the sensor yet. I've got a new one now, just want to get my car running first before I start meddling with other parts.

Just trying to get all the info out there, in case I'm not realizing that there are other factors involved in this.

Also, when the battery died I did a scan with an OBDII tool I have, and received codes telling me that all of my pistons were misfiring. To my knowledge, these codes were not around before needing the TBA, but I purchased new ignition coils anyway and they still did not change anything. I have a new cam shaft sensor too, just in case that needs replacing.

Anyway, I know this is lots of information, and that my car needs some work to be running pristine again. Right now I REALLY want my car running simply so I can stop bumming rides to and from work... Then I can worry about tuning her up to 100%.

Edit: I'm driving a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. In case there is any difference between models.

Bump.

Edit:
OK. Over 2 days I kept trying to do the TBA with VAG com, and tonight I was finally able to get the TBA to work properly. Just in case someone else falls in my shoes and cannot find any other solutions on the net that work; just keep trying! I kept unplugging my VAG and plugging it back in, and unplugged my battery for a minute, plugged it back in. Had to do that a number of times until finally the ERROR message changed to the "ADP RUN" message that is supposed to be there.

Good luck to you all.

If this ever happens again there is simple solution.

1. Push gas pedal to the floor
2. Turn key untill before turning engine over
3. Hold gas pedal down for 30 seconds
4. Turn key back to off position (leave key in ignition)
5. Release gas pedal
6. Leave car sit for 2 minutes
7. Erase trouble codes with vagcom or any other obdII code reader .
8. Start engine and drive!

That's how to do a manual tbd

Thanks turbo, I had tried to do that before I ordered VAG to no avail. The one difference was that I didn't know to clear the codes after all was said and done. I don't recall if I had already cleared them or not, so perhaps that was the difference.

No prob man hope she is running good now. My pre cat collapsed last week and it pushed me into buying a new exhaust system vs just a downpipe to replace the cat. So I have some work to do today .3" turbo back I'm stoked
