Default 03 Avant Won't Start

Hello Guys, I've just acquired this red beauty recently and would like some help on getting her fired up. First, I replaced the battery in the car and the remote, she cranks but don't start, chked all fused(good), cked fuel line going into rail and no pressure. So, I need to know where the fuel pump is located? Is there a fuel pump relay? Is there something(immobilizer, alarm, etc.) that will cut fuel? Any advice would be appreciated. Hoot, Hoot, very first post! (past member of Honda Tech, RX7 and Supra forums), Paul from Oregon

03 Avant 3.0, gas, auto, quattro,no can't hear fuel pump, and for some reason the fan motors kick on even tho the motor never starts, is that an audi thing? And yes, there is gas in the tank, thx

if the engine cranks its not the immobiliser ( if fitted ) so it sounds like the fuel pump relay which is behind the dash rear of the main fuses or a dead fuel pump which is inside the gas tank, as its an o3 it should still be under warranty

that's the wrong relay plate mate the one with the fuel pump relay has 14 relays with 8 fuses round it and # 4 relay counting from left to right on the bottom of the plate is the one for you

You may want to call the dealer and see if your car is part of the fuel pump recall. There were a bunch of 03 fuel pump failures.

Update: wasn't the fuel pump relay, and fuel pumps work(no recalls), bought the scan tool from ebay for $40, and got code 18155, which is "trans. controller unit relay open /short to ground", can someone explain further? Does that mean replace that relay? Where is this relay? Also, when I tried to read the engine codes, it just displayed "error". What does this mean? Please help, thx

"error" from the code reader means its not compatible with you car ( probably because its not CAN enabled ) so its for the earlier cars pre 2001, I don't think the transmission code has anything to do with it because the engine cranks so this rules out the tranny inhibitor so I still think its the fuel pump relay

Latest update: I tried everything to the best of my ability and with winter quickly coming here in the pacific nw, I gave in and towed it to a european specialty shop down the road from my house. They concluded it to be the main ecu, replaced it and had audi reprogram and it fired right up. But now they say something is draining the battery, they say that other computers are not turning off after the car is off (dash lights stay on). Any advice, so I can pass along to them and get my car done faster. Thx so far for all your help, paul
