Looking to purchase/install an aftermarket hitch or roof rack. Primary use would be for transporting my road bike, and perhaps snowboards in the winter (if a rack).

I am leaning towards a hitch because I could use it in the future for hauling small cargo, but would want something unobtrusive (i.e. barely visible when not in use).
If a rack, I'd probably want something permanent (prevent scratching and having to worry about whether it's on correctly).

Questions:
Hitch - what kind of hitch could I purchase to ensure it's "barely there"?
Roof rack - is it possible/worth it to purchase a rail system to have installed as a permanent fixture atop my car?
Overall - what would I be looking at cost-wise for either of these options?
