'04 Quattro NOT AWD all the time?? '01 TTR vs. '04
I had a 2001 TTR 225 6 speed - great car - excellent Quattro - great in snow with proper tires.
Now I have 2004 TTR 250 Auto with paddle shifters. Not only is the transmission lousy, the quattro on this seems to be part time. I get a strong torque steer with hard acceleration, and the car loses grip on hard cornering - which my '01 never did.
Any one else out there have similar problems?
Also interested in other links to same problem.
Thank you,
Brett Berrie

that could be attributed to more power and a loose nut behind the wheel...
you should trade it in for an 05 with the DSG tranny.. instant shifts cant be beat

SlimChriz,
The 04 TTR does have the new tranny - it's terrible - slow to shift, never near being in the right gear to rpm and quattro is not full time anymore - I'm very dissapointed with the new technology.

Everything I have read ab out Quattro is that it's all time permanant, but depending on conditions. Dry pavement on a straightaway, rear wheel. Take a turn on some wet pavement, shift power to the dry wheels. Snow, it's pretty much all for until one hits ice or soemthing. It's interactive, not just 70-30 like on a standard SUV OR pick up. Don't know about the 45mm shutt-off, but I swear I've used mine at much higher speeds than that. How new? What kind of rubber do you have on it? Tires can cause a large differernce in the way your Quattro performes. Quattro is somewhat intuitive to drive, but to really find how well it can really perform, you've got to push that envelope as far as you can (safely) pushing it until you are satisfied you know it well enough.

AWD is permanant no matter what. 4WD has a transfer case and driveshafts can be disconnected. Audi cannot claim there cars have all wheel drive if wheels shut off.

Really, I could have sworn I was told it was off and on. The volvo s XC 90 is like that, when we test drove it he informed us that it was off and on. Like there saying "Volvo, when you need it."
