Default 05 a6 4.2

I'm looking at an 05 A6 with a 4.2. Has all the maintenance records. It needs timing chain guides. I've heard it's a stupid expensive job to pay for so naturally he is selling it super cheap He says that it still runs and hasn't jumped time. He said the shop told him that was what he needed. I've done a couple timing belt jobs on 2.7 and changed timing chain tensioners on a 2.8. But I am aware that the 4.2 is a very different motor. Is a timing chain guide change doable thing on this motor. I can't find much of anything online as far as how to do it. Basically I'm wondering if a moderately experienced do it yourselfer can tackle this job? Thanks.

So basically you need to pull the engine to even access the timing guides?

Yep. That pull at that crap at the BACK!!! Chains are supposed to last the lifetime of the engine but when the guides and tensioners don't, it negates any gains by going to the chains. I love Audi/VW/Porsche but they sometimes make things way more complicated than they need to be.
