I recently bought a 1988 90 audi quattro 5 cylinder 5 speed. To start with the Fuel pump was making a buzzing sound, other then that it was running great. a few days after i bought it i was accelerating from a stop and it felt like it was running out of gas, jerking hard to accelerate, once i got past 3 gear it was doing fine. i bought some seafoam and filed up the gas tank with premium gas. still the same thing occuring. so i changed the fuel filter days later. after installing the new fuel filter the pump was quite for about a good minute and went back to normal with the pump buzzing. i replaced the pump with a different used pump hope maybe that was the problem but same thing occured with the stalling. not sure what to start with. the guy i bought it from said that it has been sitting for a while maybe 10 years give or take. NOTE like i said starts and runs fine and drives fine at steady speed. just when i try to accelerate from a stop and shifting 1st gear through 3rd gear.
Thoughs of mine some of the forums ive read
fuel sock inside gas tank
cracked hoses that deal with air pressure?
air filter
idk i paid $1300 for the thing
odomoter says 106,000 (but is broke) would like to fix dont know how
gas gage doesnt work (also like to fix)
heated driver seat doesnt work
other then that it is an amazing car everything works just mind boggling of what to start with as i dont have the cash to take it to a mechanic
any help would be greatly appreciated

i'm not an expert
hi, i'm actually new to this forum and i have the same car as well.
it's hard to explain w/o pics but if you open the hood look to the left where the air filter is that silver thing on top of the air filter is your fuel distributor. the air filter is a pain to get too. if you have to take it to a mechanic and ask what parts need to be replaced. see if you can get those parts n replace them yourself it could save you hundreds in labor fees from the mechanic. that's what i've been doing lately. anyways i'm gonna send ya a link for the fuel gauge and as far as the heated seats go, i think it's all attatched to a wire harness that connects to a heating pad. if you have to remove the bolts from the seat and take a peak underneath it could be a short in the wiring. to fix that you could easily take out the older wires and replace them solder if nessecary. those heated seats work wonders in the winter XD. so.. again i'm not an expert this car is frankly confusing compared to others that i've seen and it's been a money pit since i got it. i'm not trying to "deter" you away from this car at all. it's just the previous owner... -.- don't make any drastic decisions before seeing a local mechanic. hopefully they won't charge ya for them to check it out.
