Just bought a 2019 A3 with 23K kilometers, very clean and good looking car. I was trying to check the engine oil but had a heck of time to pull the dipstick out. Finally I did and it looks like it has 2 small snaps like just under the handle which they grab the tube coming up from the engine. I see no reason for these snaps and i wonder if there is one (I’m thinking to cut them off unless there a reason).

Any idea for the purpose of these snaps?

There may be a problem with crankcase pressure popping the dipstick out. Learn to use the snaps. Does the Owner's Manual show how?

Yes I can see the point of crankcase pressure and that was my first thought. It must be a new design because we had a 2008 A3 before and the dipstick was “normal”.

The Manual only says how to read the oil level. Next time I will go for service I will ask the mechanic.
