driving home last night my trusty 87 audi 4000 just quit on me. At 65 mph the engine quit - I popped the clutch and got a couple of firings but that was it - engine still cranks but will not fire.

I do have fuel in the tank - checked that first, there is power to the fuel pump and the pump does "hum" so I assume its working. There is one thing that is different - normally when I would start the car, I would turn the key two clicks and there would be a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds and then would click the third position to engage the starter and start the car - now, there is no "buzz" - HELP?

 

Timing chain. Just a whirring sound as you try to start it?

 

The fuel pump was running but not pumping fuel - replaced it with a rebuild from Audi Parts On Line and the old girl is purring like a kitten!
