Default A3 1.9 TDI starting problem

Hi,

I have an A3 1.9 TDi (98 Year) My problem is that on a morning it is really bad at starting I have changed the glow plugs which helped a little but it is still bad at starting first thing

When it has been running it starts no problem

The glow plug light only stays on for a split second it seem to me as if it is not long enough to heat the pluugs

Has antone got any suggestions

many thanks

Check for carbon buildup in the intake passage after the egr valve.

On the firewall side of the engine. REmove the intake hose that goes into the intake manifold. Look inside and there is a valve kinda like a throttle. That should be able to be moved freely. And there shouldnt be a buildup of black stuff all around it. If there is your intake and egr are all carboned up.
