Default A4 Electric Windows and Odemeter..related?

Picked up the car after a few weeks holiday and after using the windows noticed (sometime on the way home) the odemeter, rev counter etc failed, and the electric windows failed as well. Clock was ok. But this morning, all was working fine! Checked the fuses, all ok. Any thoughts?

One of the chaps at work said to disconnect the + lead from the battery for 15minutes to reset the 'zero' readings (not sure what he meant by that and as he was a swede he couldn't explain in english)

Thanks. Pete

I shouldclarify it is a 1997 diesel Tdi model 1.9, and those that have been following my posts can know that water still leaks in when it rains hard.

Well..... chatting to myself here but.... fixed the windows, seemed as if dampness had got under the electric switches on the door. Some contact spray did the trick.

The rev, speedo - removed the fuse and the whole panel died. Replaced it and the fuel gauge and clock worked but not the rev counter and speedo. Sprayed the contacts with lube, still u/s.

Check for faults. You may have a problem with the data bus.

Hi
I took the car to the local small time Audi/VW dealer and they plugged in a computer to a socket located between the front seat. No error codes. He then said that they need the car again to plug it into another computer and he also suspects that the problem - because it is intermittant -is with the soldering within a connection panel within the unit.
I have had some water ingress problems as well, front window seal, and that may have been a factor bringing dampness into the car.
It is booked in for the 22nd May for 2 days, so if u like I'll keep u posted.

Thanks DankHound

Just an update.
I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and hey-presto the processor in the dashboard is working perfectly again. I do wonder whether it will last though..............

Well, it didn't.

Tookout the dashboard unit again, stripped it down, covered everything in WD-40 type spray, replaced the 'trip display' bulb which blew, and it is now working again. This was a few days ago and I have spoken to Audi about this. They agree damp in the cicuit board may have caused the intermittent fault - not that they couldfix it themselves all they did was to inform I needed a new unit -350 pounds. IF this lasts I will be well pleased.
