I have a 2002 a4 audi a4 1.8t. It has 60k on it and has had every service done at the dealer on time and has been driven conservatively. I was driving down the road the other night and getting on the turbo a little having fun when all of the sudden there was a loss of power and i pulled over. The engine light was blinking , and when I tried to drive again it shook really hard when accelerating and once I got it going it was not shacking. I heard someone say coil packs, but I have never worked on cars and have know idea how to put these in. I dont want to take it to a place without knowing because I really dont want to spend a ton of money on there troubleshooting.

 

Sounds like your coils. Cost - internet $32 each. Audi dealer $62 each. Just happened to my car. Same exact symptoms.

 

thanks for the reply man.i did some more research and I think the original ones were the 'h' series and the new oem are 'j'. i wouldnt buy anything but oem. The dealer told me $36.

 

Hi,I was curious did it act like it was'nt getting gas,sputtering alot?Mine just did that tonight and the check engine light is blinking too.I press on the gas and it acts like the filter is clogged or something?

 

more shaking violently than shuttering, and a huge loss of power because whatever coil pack it is isnt firing the cylinder correctly

 

ok,thanks man it happened right after i went off a driveway and the car kinda bottomed out a little on the pavement. the manual said maybe catalytic convertor if cef is blinking it's an '04 A4 1.8t w/ an automatic cvt tranny-any other suggestions, guys?

haha yea i will try to stay on the CLEARLY marked driveway!I did a codes scan and sure 'nuff "cylinder 1 misfire" i'm wondering how important using an aftermarket borg warner coil will matter?p

 

my mechanic told me to go with the oem, and that some of the aftermarkets do the same thing

 

I went ahead and put the BW in and it runs fine again BUT there was a little bit of oil on the old 1?Should I worry about this or is it common for the gasket to leak some?Any help would be great!The cars got 57k on it.
