I know you guys in the states probably don't have much experience with the old oil burner engine but I was wondering if some of you kind gentlemen would help me with some advice ? When the turbo is spooling up I can hear what can only be described as a slight blowing noise which then dissappears when I bury the throttle. I don't know that much about Audi's but I've got a nasty feeling it may be a hole in one of the heavy duty rubber hoses connected to the turbo unit, maybe from the intercooler or something. I can't actually see the pipes because it looks like I have to take the front bumper and intercooler off etc. Please help !!!

 

usually a boost leak will get louder with increased engine load. Its more normal for turbo noise to be audible at part throttle and disappear at hight loads.

 

try going to www.tdiclub.com they have a wealth of knowledge and can likely help you.

 

could also be the flexi hose on the exhaust leaking FWDs are famous for that

I've just bought the software package they use in the Audi/VW dealerships which contains an awesome amount of info on all Audi/VW up to 2005. I think I'll take a look at the problem next weekend.
