Default AC (S Reg 1.9TD)

Hi folks I am new to this site and not the least bit mechanically minded (bit of a girl you see)
about 2 weeks ago my A/C stopped blowing cold air, I thought at first that it might be just the fuse, however when I changed it it is still only releasing warm air when the car is doing over 50mph.
I really can't afford to take it to the local dealership and I was wondering what is the most common cause for this and how to do the repair as cheaply as poss? Can I get someone out and buy 2 hand motor etc...

Is it easy to do.....and do you think i would be able to do it myself? and where would I get the instructions,
I have spoken to an aircon co and they thought it might be the motor (but he didn't know where it was on anAudi) or a wiring job...both sounded really expensive

its an S reg and they will try to take advantage by saying its the pump/motor but the chances of that I would say are rare and in most cases it just needs gas,

go somewhere else and ask them to refill it and nothing else and dont fall for the ( it could be something else trick ) if they cant refill it because there is a problem it might not be worth the expense to have it fixed you are in the UK I assume and its mostly cold and wet, mine went down a few years ago and haven't bothered with it I just open the windows

I have just had a quote from the local dealership saying they will do an AC service for £99 and will put in some die to see where a leak may be. Is this a good price or should I be shopping around, I am really rubbish at all this.

shop around and why are they doing a leak test? this only adds to the cost,

its normal for systems to loose pressure because of lack of use which is the most common problem here in the UK

edit: this is exactly the answer I would expect a garage to say ( have a look for problems and if you dont find one create one ) so ask them or some other garage to fill the system even get the aircon can from halfords which is only £20 that way if it has a problem its cost pennies to find out then you can decide if you want to go ahead with any expensive repairs which it probably hasn't got any

You are a star thank you. Is there anywhere on line that will show me how to do this if I go to halfords and buy one?
