Air Vents Turning on by itself? A6 98 Quatro
Hello guys, i am a new member here and i hope you techies could help me out?
My 1998 Audi A6 Quatro's air vents (the heating/ac) turns on by itself full blast. Even if i have it on the lowest setting or even OFF it will turn on. I can adjust the temp but even if i press the off switch it will remain on. Just started today, infact 10 min ago
The worst part is that the air that comes out smells like coolant. Is this a common problem? is it just some weird wiring problem?
Thank you guys ahead of time.
Brandon

Most likely you have an intermittent short to the control line for the speed of the air blower. The blower is controlled by a PWM controller in the fresh air duct. Dc voltage proportional to the speed required is sent from the AC controller and converted in the pulse train of varying pulse width changing average DC voltage applied to the motor. You have to remove (I am assuming it is C5) glove box and you will see blower and the module installed on the fresh air duct. Sometimes water runs down and causes corrosion.
