Default Am I screwed?

Well, I lost my only key to my 2002 A6 2.7t. No spare, I know I should have had one made long ago when we got it used with only 1 key. Anyways long story short I left the key on top of another car and went to the store, key fell off in the road, got ran over and I could only find peices of it. I found most of the remote but could not find the flipout key itself. So I went to the dealer and paid the big bucks to have a pair of keys cut since you can't just buy 1 when you have none. I got them back and tried them in the car, nothing. Won't turn the ign or open a door or trunk or glovebox. Thought maybe they cut em wrong so the dealer took em back and had 2 more cut by using the VIN, got them back, same results. Now they are saying either the car has had a new lockset installed or they have the wrong code on file to cut the keys. Either way they say the only option is to get another lockset installed at nearly $1000.

Someone help me out here. I'm about to sell the car with no key

I guess the lack of response means I'm screwed. I'll have to order a new lockset. Anyone know a good place to order them from?

You mean that the key won't even open the doors? When you put the key into the ignition does it turn?

I would simply buy a working lockset off anyone of the guys parting out their s4's and install it all yourself.

yeah you have to buy a new lockset then. See if www.shokan.com has any from a wrecked car. They specialize in audis.

well, shokan says:

"The lockset is programmed to match the ECU and instrument cluster so a used set will not work. You will need to go to an Audi dealer for this one, sorry."

Isn't it reprogrmmable though?

Yes its programmable, but only the dealer can program the immobilizer system, so if you bought a used lock set the dealer would have to program the new keys to the ECM and instrument cluster.
