Hi there - I have owned for the past year an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. Year 2004. Mileage 138K. It has had many problems since I owned it, however, the one which has everybody stumped, including Motor Mechanics is that it has a low moaning/groaning sound. Don't know where it originates from and it is intermittent. Some days it does it all the time, other days it is intermittent, other days again it hardly does it at all. Sometimes it is really noticeable, other days you have to strain your ears to hear it. I can't sell it because if it is having a bad day, people will wonder what the devil it is and I can't answer them! There is no rhyme or reason to when it does it. It can be going slow, it can be fast, it can be in a straight line, it can be round a corner.

One mechanic says he can't hear it, another says he can but doesn't know what it is. The garage I bought it from says they can't hear it. My local Audi Garage/Dealership says they can hear it but don't know what it is, they want $120 per hour to investigate and it could be hours before they find it - I can't afford that.

I can only explain it as a low/deep groaning noise or perhaps a humming or a droning noise and sometimes you can feel the noise through the bottom of the car - a sort of vibration I guess??

If anybody can shed some light on this I would be grateful as it seems so far nobody knows what it is! Many thanks in advance.

 

Hi, I am having the same issue except it sounds like the front end. and the check engine light also came on although its not flashing. It's only got 120,000 on it
