Audi A4 1.8T overheating
Hello,
I need some advise from you all. I have a 1997 Audi A4 1.8T, it started overheating about 3 weeks after the Timingbelt was replaced. I noticed the coolant put in by the shop where I had the work done is "green", and not the red recommended in the manual. Would this be problem? If, I have to drain and replace the coolant, any advise on this?

first off they should have gone by the specs for the coolant so they could be held responsible for any damage, personally I would go back because there work should carry a warranty it sounds to me they didn't clear the air out of the system ( take it back ) ASAP
An air pocket can definatly cause the symptoms you describe. They may have used one of those all purpose coolants. Personally i only use the audi spec stuff in my car, but in any case using the wrong coolant shouldnt make the car overheat. It can cause corrosion and contamination issues down the road, but its not anything you would see this early. Take the advise above and return to the shop that did the work and tell them of your trobles.
does anyone know at what point is the aux fan suppose to turn on when the car's temp starts goin up during long stops in traffic? My temp goes up during traffic, im still don't know when the fan should turn on although i havnt overheated yet, the temp sometimes gets abit too close for comfort
