Default Body Filler Question

My friend & I were going to try to fix a dent on his Audi. I was looking to buy some body filler but I am confused as to which one to get.Anybody have any opinions on which of these would work best? Also, I have basically no experience using body filler...any chance I could totally mess up the way the car looks?http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/c-49...s.aspx?cid=FM1

it all depends on how big the dent is. if you have a big one do not fill it with bodyfiller. bodyfiller is only supposto be 1/8in thick at max.(yea i know alot of people do more.)and yes you can screwup the way the car looks big time. i would have someone that knows alittle bit about it help you. its kinda hard to explainover the internet.i got to college for autobody and love evey second of it. do you have the paint to match?

Default RE: Body Filler Question

it all depends on how much he cares about the outcome and the longevity of it.

the more expensive the filler typically the better.

if you just trying to get a result out of it to make look like normal. you need to pull the dent out as much as possible and just use bondo.

but the amount of hardener you use for the filler has a serious effect. too much too hard and it will crack... too little too soft and won't cure correctly. body panels that tend to flex more w/ suspension you need to be slightly softer to avoid cracks... and like the guy above me said. rule of thumb is 1/8 inch thick. i personally... if i have to go thicker i layer bondo on bondo in 1/8 inch increments... i've never had and issue. but i won't go over 1/2 total.

pretty much no matter what we tell you... its only personal experience. if you adement on doing it yourself. Just going to have to try it out. and if doesn't work. sand it down and try again. over and over until you get it right
