Default CEL from engine knock?

My car is a 2001 A4, 1.8T Quattro. 47k miles, I just got it so I have no matainence records.

I made the mistake of letting my brother drive my car today, and now the CEL is on. He stalled it quite a few times (he doesn't drive stick well), and it jerked it pretty hard... is it possible that the stalling caused the engine to knock and the CEL to come on? I also heard that the CEL will reset itself if the problem is not reproduced in 24 hours. BTW, I'm running 91 octane (CA bastardized premium), so I doubt that fuel is a problem.

Can anyone corroborate this info or offer help on the situation? The problem occured somewhere between when I pulled the car out for my brother to try and when I forced him out of the driver seat so he wouldn't burn up my clutch.

If your car isn't 4 years old bring it to a dealer. It could be the knock sensor. You might try reseting the code by disconnecting the battery for a few hours.

I'm not gonna bother with the stealership. If the light stays on over this weekend, I'm going to take it to my friend who co-owns a VW/Audi shop, he said he could hook me up for a free inspection/diagnosis.

All fixed now, the CEL went out on it's own. Maybe my brother is an engine light jynx.
