clicking noise upon takeoff and into 2nd gear
Hello!
I have a clicking noise coming from under the middle of the car. It clicks in 1st gear(not real loud) and then the clicking increases in speed (again not real loud) into 2nd and then seems to stop. the engine isn't skipping or running any perceptable difference other than the faint clicking. Please tell me it isn't the tranny.

doesn't sound like a gearbox problem I know of more like a electricians tie wrap used to seal/clamp the C/V boot on the drive shaft "people forget to cut the tail off" and it clicks on the hub when in motion, just a thought
i am being told it has to do with the driveshaft from someone i do not trust. It strikes me that i may have overstated how loud it isn't. It can be heard and isn't that faint. your suggestion seems like it would be very, very faint. Thank you for the suggestion!!

next step is to drive round in circles slow clockwise and anti clockwise to listen for crunching C/V joints, also jack front wheels of the ground spin the wheels and do the wobble test for worn ball joints and things
I had the same ticking in my 92 100---I thought it was the CV joints--but turned out that it was inside one of my Cat's----only way I could tell was to get it up on a lift and put it in gear----(I just cut out the bottoms of both cats and sure enough the one was split and clanking around)-----after cutting a hatch I rewelded it back together and it's fine now a little louder but not clicking-----
It was the CV joints in the front(?) of the driveshaft. They had basically disintegrated during a trip up and down the east coast. The mechanic couldn't believe that the car was still driving as well as it was and that the sound was so soft. This is my second audi and I just love these cars. My first 98 A4 had 230K when it threw a a timing belt and basically totalled the car. It was my fault because it was the original belt. I am not car savvy obviously and had no idea this needed to be replaced. I will never make that mistake again because the car drove like brand new and I really liked it and was sooo bummed to see, "Black car" go. One good thing is that the guy I sold it to found a used 2.8 and is rocking it up and down my street, pissing me off all the time. That was the only time in 5 years of ownership that it ever left me stranded. Thank you all for your suggestions.

Would this sound be similar to the noise a glass bowl with 1/2 a dozen marbles rotating around in it?
I have this type of noise from start to 3000 rpm in ALL gears and when tapping the gas when already moving.
Had both CV boots replaced and cambelt and clutch 5 k miles ago, now it;s becoming a pain in the ear noise.
Any suggestions?
