Default Coil Packs??? Engine misfires

(** I apologize for cross posting on more than one forum ** )

Hi,

I'm new here and was hoping for some advice. I have an '03 A4 that has a 1.8T.

For the last few days, I've had a cylinder(s) missing occasionally. After decoding the CEL, it showed a p0300, p0301, and a p302 (gen. misfire, misfire cyl 1, misfire cyl 2). When I say it misses occasionally, I mean I can drive around without any problem, but some days it will run rough and I have to creep home. After letting the vehicle rest, the next day it drives fine again and the cycle continues.

With previous cars, when a coil goes, it goes.... Can the coil packs on an Audi get 'flakey' like how I'm describing (work, not work, then work again)?

Is it common for more than one coil pack to go out simultaneously? Since cly 1 and cyl 2 are the ones in question, and the firing order is 1-3-4-2, I did replace cly 2's coil with the thought that a preceding cylinder misfiring could effect the next cylinder (cylinder #2 fires then next up is #1).

Is that totally crazy? (thought was, if a cyl missed, that would effect the exhaust functions of the turbo, which would then effect the o2 sensors, which would then mess with the ECM, which would then cause firing and fuel/mixture issues..... crazy huh?)

If it's not the coil packs, what else could cause cyl 1 or 2 to start missing on random occasions?

I apologize for being long winded here. I've been racking my mind over this and hoped to provide enough relevant information, hopefully enough facts/symptoms/theory's to get a little feedback from a few pros.

Thanks,

Matt

Most likely the ignition module on the air filter cover.
