Cylinder 3 misfire
 

First i am a new member to the board and would like to say hello to all.

I have a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T

I have been getting a misfire in cylinder three for about two weeks now. I swapped the coils from two and three but there was still a misfire in three. I moved on the the spark plugs and changed all four because they were dark brown. (which i've read on here is a possibility that the turbo is running rich)

The engine was still misfiring so I took it to the shop and they said the coil was bad on three so they replaced that and put in fuel injector cleaner because there was a build up or carbon.

I'm thinking its the coil wire harness that is connected to all four coils because the clip that snaps into the coil is missing but is on all other three coil wires.

Do you guys have any other suggestions on what may be causing this misfire?

I'm a college student so im trying not to pour all my money into exploring every option which is what I may have to do.

Did your year and model fall under the coil recall?

Yes but i already went in with the car for the new coils

I'm not sure on this one. I'm going to say possibly the wiring, but could be a multitude of things. Research like nuts on this forum. I am sure you will find something that will help you! Good luck!

I've been reading up on other people problems with their misfires. Alot are having problems with their ICM but other places I have read that the 2l turbo doesnt have it. Can anyone clarify that and if there is one where is it located?

There are three things that can cause a misfire: weak or no spark, no fuel or bad A/F mixture, no or low compression due to a mechanical problem. So check for spark using a spark tester, if spark is good make sure the fuel injector is working and delivering fuel, if injector is working properly, check compression to detect a bad cylinder,

took my car to the shop today and they said its not a dead misfire only when its starting. possible causes are fuel injectors, carbon build up on valve, valve train problem or electrical problems.

im hoping its the coil wiring harness not the fuel injectors. Im gonna take the car to audi on wednesday and see what they say.

not really the right place but. i would start with the coils and plugs but since the dealer said 600$ for further diagnostics i would say you have a bigger problem. i would talk to the dealer and get a more detailed explanation of what they think is going on.
