Default a few questions...

ok, so i drive a 2003 a4 1.8t. i bought the car used and it didn't come with an owners manual. i was wondering if anyone knew how i could get my hands on one. also, when i drive the car, the mpg changes the entire time. sometimes it says i'm only getting 11, other times it's up over 30. i was wondering if that's normal. it also has a 0 with a line through it on the left side of the mpg. is that normal, or a sign that something isn't functioning correctly?

thanks.

the mpg gauge on any car is only an estimate of how you drive at that moment in time. if you throttle it on it will go down. or if you're rock steady and go over a slight incline it will also go down. if you coast to a stop it will go up. thats normal. easy way to calculate a more real life mpg is estimate average after you use up a full tank and fill it up. take the miles driven divided by the number of gallons of fuel needed to fill it up.
ie 300/14.7=###
