Foam air filters. Worth it or no?
Hey guys,
I already did a search and nothing came up on foam air filters. I'm considering getting some foam air filters (not to be confused with K&N filters which are gauze filters).
To be honest I'm pretty old-school about it and partial to OEM air filters. That said, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with foam air filters and if they are worth the money and hassle.

I've never used foam filters. I usually stick with the OEM Paper ones. As long as you change them regularly, you should be ok. I do use K&N Filters on my 944's though. I don't like to use them on the newer stuff with MAF sensors as they can produce an oily residue just downstream into the MAF that can cause issues with the heater element in the MAF. My 944s do not use a MAF sensor so no worries there.
For my Audi's (03 A8L and an 87 5000SQ) is stick with the paper ones. However, I may switch to a K&N on the 5000 when I finish the rebuild on the engine and suspension. The A8 will stay with OEM filters.
HTH,
Dave

I have a foam filter from pipercross in my 2006 S4. I felt enough of a difference after putting it in. And it traps all the big stuff, while still letting more air flow through. It's worth it to me. Plus, cleaning is just rinsing it out with hot water and letting it completely air dry. Take care of it right, and it'll last for years. And no oils to mess up the MAF sensor either

Question; Have you ever noticed any dust on the "filtered" side of the airbox?
