My owner's manual says , I can run 87. I tried 87 once , there was no boost and a very noticeable loss of power.

No pun intended. If you haven't tried 89 in a non-chipped 1.8t, don't knock it.

I just removed the gas cap, and it's clean.

Mobil Super+ is the best I can get out here @ 91 Octane. The Mobil premium we have is only 89 Octane..

The gas cap door has nothing to do with internals. It's like asking me if I have brake dust on my wheels. My owners manual says 87 can be used. I do not believe it contradicts the label on the inside of the door.
