Default Hard to Start

My car is a 2000 A4 1.8. When it has been driven for a while and you turn it off it becomes hard to start. It will take anywhere from 2-8 attempts to start. While started it drives perfect. I have had the Battery and alternator checked, but I can't figure out what is wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Default RE: Hard to Start

The following are some of the possible cause of hard starting:
- Fuel pump might be failing and there is a low pressure
- Crank position sensor (might be failing)
- Dirty fuel injectors
- Coolant Temperature Sensor might be failing/bad
- Clogged or dirty fuel filter
- A bad fuel pressure regulator

check on those truck parts and see if there is something wrong with it. Keep us informed of what other things have you noticed upon checking on those parts.
Good luck and hope it helps.

The problem had gone away. Now that it is cold again it has come back. Could the weather have a bearing on what the problem is?

Check for codes, even if you do not have a CEL.

I had 8 codes and cleared them. I just realized after that I should have wrote them down. The car started afterward. When I got home I tried starting it after I turned it off. It would not start. I checked for codes again and there were none.

I changed the cam position sensor and the crank sensor. As of now, it seems to have fixed the problem. I appreciate the help.

Default Crank Position Sensor

I have a 2005 1.8T A4 and the car would just shut down for no reason and then fire right back up. It threw a code and it turns out the crank position sensor (CPS) is bad or going bad. I have ordered a new CPS and will anstall it this weekend...wish me luck! Does anyone have any pics/illustrations showing where it is located on my A4? Any help would be appreciated.
