Has anyone ever dropped the oil pan?
Fellas... rookie to this forum, so please bare with me.
Just left the dealership with a $1500 repair quote, so needless to say, I'm going to try and fix-it myself first. Has anyone ever dropped the oil pan and cleaned out the sludge...?According to my home dealership, my 2002 A4 ( which I purchased in late 06 ) had a regular oil change that sludged up the system. This is causing my Oil Pressure light to turn on and hence, prompted my visit to the dealership.
I just want to know if it's a reall SOB to take down and clean...? Anyone with any info, please let me know.

find out if your covered on the sludge warranty. not sure of the details since i'm 2.8 but find out if your covered first. do you have oil change records? i do know that dropping the oil pan on a 1.8 involves dropping the sub frame of the car so yeah its a real sob.
It's deffinately not something you can do in your driveway as a first-timer. There's quite a bit more to it than just taking off the oil pan as well. Unless your oil wasn't changed regularly, then there isn't a lot of sludge in the oil pan. There are tiny pieces clogging the pick up screen, which is what needs to be replaced along with all of the crankcase breather hoses that are holding more of those little chunks and will clog up the next screen if they're not replaced. There's also a special flush they run through that cleans all of the build up out of your engine. If you have your oil change records, then it should be under warranty. It's a pretty extensive job that pays 7 hours. If you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't recomend doing it. Removing the oil pan is a pain, and a pretty tight squeeze as well. I also wouldn't recommend driving your car until the problem is fixed, or you may end up buying a motor.
