Help! HIGH idle on 2005.5 B7 A4 2.0T 6spM
My car turned 77k, and am about to take it into the dealership for my 75k service...which I'm expecting to be an expensive visit.
Check engine light came on a month ago, and would go on and off. Dealership said if it’s running fine and the light is off, it’s probably OK. Now the check engine light is constantly on. At idle, the car fluctuates around 1200 and sometimes settles as high as 1600rpm, with sudden drop offs to normal idle around 800 every now and then. It seems to be more prevalent when the car is warmed up and been driven for a while.
I also have had my airbag light on since 2k miles after my warranty expired (go figure). They said my airbag needs replaced, which I wasn’t about to pay $500 for. I have been unsuccessful battling with Audi for them to replace it for what seems to be a widespread issue.
Any suggestions for either issue when I head into the dealership? Thanks in advance!

My suggestion for dealing with the dealership is to not deal with the dealership. If it isn't something you feel comfortable doing yourself, find a good independent shop that understands Audi.
this is what they said..
Found fault P0507 idle control system rpm higher than expected, P2008 intake manifold runner bank 1 control circuit open. P2187 fuel trim bank1 system too lean at idle speed. P3138 intake flap for air flow control control difference. $125.00 to perform reflash on ECM for intake runner faults. $340.00 to replace crankcase breather valve for lean and idle speed. $550.00 to replace air bag.

Under $200 for all the parts to replace every conceivable component of the crankcase breather system, definitely DIY. Airbag may or may not need to be replaced. On older models there seems to be an issue with the connectors in various locations (most common reported is under the driver's seat, mine is in the back seat passenger side...) though I suppose it is possible that you need a new "airbag".
$125 for the ECM reflash seems reasonable.
Good luck. Keep us updated.

VW has issued a warranty extension for both the crankcase breather and Intake manifold runner control motor on many 2.0t BPY engines. I've done one on a b7 a4 here just before it was made into a warranty extension, so chances are it will be free.
