HID replacement and DWI Interlock
First, not sure this is the right forum so if not, admins, please feel free to move.
My grandson has a 2008 A6 with HID headlights. Back at Christmas he got stopped for DWI/DUI. (Yeah, I know). As one of many consequences, he had to have some sort of interlock switch put on his car before he can start it.
The problem is one of the headlights has gone out and he just took it to an Audi dealer who is telling him the interlock adds 2 hours of labor to the job and that they need some code because changing the driver-side bulb will jack with the electrical system. THAT will cause the interlock to think the car is being tampered with and shutdown everything , resulting in even bigger bucks having to be spent.
In researching, I find it impossible to believe that changing a headlamp will trigger something in the interlock but thought I'd ask the experts before I go get my Torx bits.
Anyone have any experience with this?
TIA
