Default how to get a brake line off

like it says, i need to repace a seized caliper (not rebuilding it, just got a new one) i know how to get the stuff off and everything but how do i actually diconnect it from the brake line. also just making sure our cars use DOT4 right, may as well do a full fluid flush while i have everything off.

differnt models are a bit differnt. probably just a banjo fitting is the most common. cant tell you any more than that, should just be a fitting of some sort. and yes DOT4

You will need a brake line wrench. It is essentially a closed end wrench with a slot to get it by the brake line (use it on the bleeder valve, too). The wrench size is standard across the industry, though the foreign makes may use a metric size. A good auto parts store should know the right wrench...you can even test fit it on a brake line sold in the store.

It is good practice to change brake fluid every 2 years (may not be common practice!). You should take the opportunity to flush out the system with new DOT 4 fluid.

yeah i eventually got it off, i had to take it off from the steel lines as the bolt on the caliper where rusted on like no other (even aftser pb blasting ht ehell out of it) but i also drained the fluid and got a new line and valvoline sunthetic DOT4 and now just waiting on the caliper to come and put her back together. right now the car is taking up most of the space in our 2 car garage (pissing off my parents) and up on 4 jack stands without wheels.

gald you were able to get the caliper off. Be careful with the synthetic fluid...some require the entire system be flushed out by pulling the new fluid through the calipers because the old natural fluid will contaminate it. Just something I read about a car restoration. Check with a tech.

good luck..give the 'rents their garage back!
