Default Inertia Switch? Someone reset my computer codes & fixed nothing. can i reboot them?

I have a 97 a4 that was in a small wreck; i thought it this way. I think the guy cleared the codes and then didnt fix anything. my mechanic hooked up the OBD2 to it but pulled no codes. there is no check engine light, but the car starts fine, runs fine & strong for a few seconds then dies after about 5 seconds. you can painfully prolong the dieing by pumping the gas pedal rapidly, but it sputters and never operates normally while you do this. after it does die, the oil and temp warning flash continually. please help. any advice is much appreciated. thanks!
