Default new Audi owner - 2000 A4 quattro 2.8

Hi all,

I came across a 2000 A4 2.8 Avant and have a few questions regarding the car...vehicle is a 2.8 5sp avant, 141,000+ miles. It is in terrific shape for its age and seems to run well and is enjoyable to drive so far.

First off, the check engine light came on after about 300 miles, so i assume that the person i bought it from had pulled the battery to reset it. If i were to guess first off it may be an emissions issue and plan to run a diag on it this week. Any input on what most likely to expect would be great.

Also, on the coil packs appear to be original and I plan on replacing, what are the best options for them.

When shifting under half to full power I am able to feel the rear end engage, this I'm wondering if is inherent to this drive train or would this be wear on the rear axels or the diff?

Any internal engine issue should I focus on also, the car does have K & N high flow cone filters installed, so its a bit ouder than stock, I'm just curious if I should be aware of any other issues that tend to be common with these models.

I'm planning on scrutineering the car this week for some laps up at VIR this weekend to check the car out and just want to make sure i dont miss anything.

Thanks

Greek.
