Default New to Audis... What is "Vag-Com"??

Just bought my first Audi and I'm looking into the baseline mild mods... and I keep seeing references to Vag-Com. I tried searching, but came up with nothing... can you someone give me a laymen intro to what this is? I'm familiar with chip computers for my Mustang, but every where I search, this just appears to be a cable... ? Thanks in advance to anyone that can school me.

Cheers, JR

From what I understand, it is a handheld computer tool, similar to that of Nissan's CONSULT, that serves as an appliance to Audis and is given to dealership service techs, but it can also be purchased separately. It connects to the car's ECU, and has a variety of functions it can check, perform, control and change for your car.

Its more or less VW/Audi's very own fancy scan tool.

http://www.ross-tech.com/
that's their website~ It's basically a program installed onto your laptop and a wire connecting your laptop and the car so you can scan for codes and do other cool things~

Hey, I was hunting around the Ross-Tech website and around the rest of the internet and I'm a bit confused on what I need to get a Vag-Com connection for my 01 A6 2.7TQ. Price seems to vary drastically too... Can anyone tell me exactly what cable I need and where is the best place to get it (cheapest would be preferrable).

Thanks, JR

Get the $20 USB to VAG-COM cable off ebay (yes, seriously) and PM me. I've got instructions to make your cable and software (from ross-tech) work like the full version.

Kind of sucks if you don't have a laptop, so think about how you're going to hook things up before ya buy anything. I've got lots of experience getting these things to work, so again, let me know.
