Default New key

Hello, I have a 03 A6 and I have one key. I bought another key, the shaft is uncut and the electronic part needs programed. Is an Audi dealer the only place that can cut and program the key, or can a locksmith do it too. I live in West Virginia not too far from Winchester, VA. I know the dealer will charge me about $80. That's a lot to cut a key.
Thanks for your help

Let me guess you bought it online.

Tie a little red bow on that one and turn it into an ornament.

You need to order one from AUDI. $300

VW can cut it but the knock-off keys will not work. And everyone sucks at cutting those.

I tried that too. Waste of time and money. Not to mention they are Brass cores and the OEM is Stainless Steel.

Default New Key

The key I bought is a used Audi key with a blank installed, can I transplant my existing already cut key shaft in to the newer remote base? The reason I bought the newer one is because my older one broke where the metal shaft attaches to the pivot area on the remote.
Just thought I'd ask. Ihave one good key, I just want a second one for backup.

The metal key can be transplanted but do you have an imobilizer on your car? There is a chip in the key that your car must recognize to start. If you have an imobilizer you need to get a new TOP part, I think the Imobilizer chip and the key come together. so you may be able to get away with the bottom. Try programming it. Go to your car door press the unlock button on your fob then open and close the lock by inserting your key in the door. Then try the fob and see if it works if so you only need the new chip and maybe a key if they don't sell them seperate.

These keys are painful
