I just bought an 97 audi a4 1.8t auto and i can get it to go into overdrive. Is this a common problem with these or what? It sucks cause at 70 on the freeway i am running like 3800 rpm. The tranny seems real tight and is full of fluid. I think it has got to be a vacuum line or a electrical connection or sensor but i am not sure. I am new to Audis and have no idea where to even start looking. If you have any helpful hints or directions to point me in let me know. Thanks

 

check the fluid level. smell it, taste it and figure out if its burnt or good.

 

try getting your transmission flushed
