noise from brakes after axle replace
Just replaced the left front axle with EMPI OEM, and reinstalled the right front axle (with the original axle; outer CV boot got replaced).
When the car is moving (~30mph and up) I am hearing the constant noise from both brakes. I think the noise comes from the friction between the pad and the disc. The disc/pad on either side is brand new (<50 miles on). Before replacing the axles, there was no noise even with the new disc/pad. Becomes noisier when turning. Having said so, the noise is not loud... but I can hear. Any clue how the noise developed (eg, too tight or loose axle bolt - I followed Bentley book: 133ftlb + 180deg)? Should I do anything? Or should I let time resolve this (the pad and disc wear out)? Thanks, |
it could be the plate behind the rotor ,move it back by screw driver.

Agreed with above , the backing plates probably got bent from trying to move steering by grabbing the rotor & backing plate.

I had this happen on my Ford explorer when I changed the bearing hubs so I also agree.

Agreed. If you didn't do so during reassembly, I would also pull the caliper sliders back out and wire-brush them, then coat them with a high-temp ceramic grease. Audi sliders are known to bind up and seize the calipers.

Thanks guys. That was it! I didn't even have to take the wheel off.

haha, just did my axle, same thing, must have mashed that shroud against back of rotor, wasted a fresh pair of rubber gloves on half a second fix. Love AudiForums!!!
