Default NOISE WHEN STARTING CAR

2004 AUDI A4 3.0
53K MILES

WHEN I START THE CAR IT STARTS LOUD LIKE A DECEL CAR. OTHER THAN THAT IT RUNS AND SOUNDS AWESOME. IT ONLY MAKES THAT NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS BEING STARTED. ANY IDEAS?

sounds like you have a oil starvation problem. 3.0 engines do take a little more time to get oil pressure to the chain tensioners than other engines.

Sounds like the valve lifters on my 86 4kq?

German cars are known for long as with sounds...

Not an easy and effective solution, even replacing lifters does not help allways..

Did you get your oil changed recently? If so they may not have put enough oil back in. It has happened before.....if thats not it.....when the engine is cold, open the oil fill cap and stick your finger in it and feel if there is any oil gunk ( sludge ).

Do you have an auxiliary air pump? It makes sound for about a 1 min. The oil filter anti-drain valve should keep the pressure in the system.. You might do an oil change with flush and good filter

what i found to help is lucas oil treatment, it pretty much makesthe oil a bit more viscous so it flows better to the lifter and such. thats pretyt much it, or use a thicker weight oil although the lucas stuff works the best in my opinion to quiet downteh lifter noise.
