Default o2 sensor needs replacing? P1103 (VAG 17511)

hey guys/gals

Recent VAG COM of my car revealed a problem with the o2 sensor. Which was exactly what I was thinking it was! Bad fuel consumption, lack of power... etc.

HOWEVER - I'm not sure if the o2 sensor needs replacing, or if there's something else funky going on with it. The o2 sensor heater - that's PART of the o2 sensor, correct?

The particular code I'm throwing in VAG is
17511/P1103/004355 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1: Performance too Low
Possible Solutions
Check Oxygen Sensor Heating for Oxygen Sensor before Catalytic Converter
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/...ible_Solutions

If I replace my o2 sensor, the one closest to the engine (the easy one to get to? ) will this fix my problem? I have a 2002 A4. (B6)

thanks for any help,
Andrew

If I replace the pre-cat o2 sensor in my 2002 A4 (b6) would it be the following part?

Bosch 17090 OE Type fitment before cat

This would be a wideband sensor, correct?

thanks

Wow, no answers. Oh well... I will post MY resolution, to help with anyone else out there who may come across this problem.

It was indeed the O2 sensor. Replaced with a nice new Bosch, code went away and hasnt come back, and the car has a noticible amount of power back. It also isn't shaky anymore on accel. Yay!

I recently too got that same code 17511 - Oxygen (lambda) sensor heating; B1 S1 p1103 -008 - performance too low.. along with 16523 - oxygen (lambda) sensor B1 S2 p0139 - 004 responce too slow- intermitent. Replaced the first 02 sensor and one went away. Now to replace second one in rear. Sorry no one responded to you. Glad you did and found the solution. Thanx.

How much did it cost to replace the O2 sensor?

DIY for about $100. Twice that if you can't.
