Oil pressure woes 2007 S4 4.2L
I have a new to me 2007 S4 that was rode hard and put up wet. several issues, but the most concerning is low oil pressure warning. I drove to the gas station and back, approximately 1.5 miles and upon return home to let wifey drive the new ride, of course leaving the driveway get the oil pressure low light followed by red light. Car has no chain slap and actually runs quite well. Oil appears clean (allegedly just changed) and appropriate amount. So, I did the right thing and threw parts at it - namely replaced the oil pressure sensor at the base of the filter housing. Well, now the car more consistently throws the warning once warm over about 2000 rpm. Below this and at idle the light extinguishes.
i have done as much research as possible and I am going to get an actual gauge tomorrow to actually check the pressures. I suspect they are gonna be low at this point. All I know about the car is it sat for a long time. Squirrels got into the engine compartment, but no wire damage that I have found. Plus the sensor leads seem intact and have continuity. I could imagine these symptoms could arise from a partially blocked to blocked oil pickup filter within the oil pan or even a bad pump. What has been others’ experience in this realm? Appreciate any help.
