Default Part Identification (P0941)

Hello,

I have an 03 Allroad with the 2.7 T that has the CEL on right now with a P0941 code. I just started looking into it and poking around.
Last week I replaced the driver's side exhaust cam plug to stop a leak which was the issue. Shortly after that repair the CEL came on with the P0941 code. So logically I started looking around where I was working to see if I had knocked a vacuum hose loose or something. I'm attaching a picture of something I found in hopes that someone can tell me what this "can"/ device is that I'm looking at. The hose on has a huge gash in it that I've tried to show however there's some kind of fiber just under the rubber and I'm not sure if I should cut this and re-attach or not. The hose looks molded to a metal hose on the other end and I'm not sure where that goes just yet because it is so tight back there.
Again this is directly under the expansion tank and just above the exhaust manifold on the driver's side.
The pics look a little odd because of resizing but I think they show what I'm looking at ok.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer.

Default found it

Ok so someone told me it is the EGR valve. Can I cut that hose that's cracked and just re-attach?

Thanks!

Default Did it

So I just cut the hose and reattached it with a new clamp. Not sure if that was the reason for the CEL but hopefully it will reset itself, otherwise I'll reset it at an autoparts place and see if it comes back.
