This part of my guage cluster (see pic) never shows anything. Is it suppose to display something like outside temp or fuel consumption ? I have a 97a4 1.8t

The highlighted area does not apear in the thumbnail but it is the squar section between the tach and spedonmeter that I am talking about.

 

I could be wrong here (havent driven an A4 in years) but as I recall its the warning message area. I think it also tells you mpg and stuff and isnt there a button to display it on the end of the turn signal stalk???

 

I have a similar display on my '01 A4 and it shows MPG, time driven, miles to empty, radio display, average fuel comsumption, and the gear.

 

mine is just a dummy light display. you might not have the mpg and such options. if nothing is on, that is probably good. mine is low fuel, low coolant or high temp and oil temp and pressure warning. not a stupid question

 

You will either have a digital display or standard trouble light display. Either way the section should light up when you turn ignition to "ON" position before starting. If you dont have any lights or display showing up there is a problem somewhere.

 

under teh end of the wiper-stalk, I believe is an on/off button for teh HUD(heads-up-display)

 

Alright thanks guys. I get the low gas light on in there but I dont think anything else comes up, I will check later today to see if any other lights come on when i turn the ignition to the on position.

 

I would just check my manual for this stuff, but i bought the car from a french guy in montreal and all my manuals are in french, and I cant speak nor read a word of it.
With that being said, any french guys or girls on here want to do a trade ?

 

well I checked this morning and in that area there are 4 square's the same size in the upper portion (fuel light, coolant temp, oil pressure, and I dont know the last).and under those there are 2 long and thin rectangles, when I am driving or when I turn the key to the on position I never have anything displayed in the 2 rectangles. I do, however, get lights in the 4 square's when I turn the key to the on position.
I dont have any buttons on any of the stalks. If my car was not equipt with the heads up display, would I still have the same insturment cluster, and some things just not work ?
