Default Run Down on Scanners

I want to add a scanner to my tool bag and i don't know anything about them. I did see a cable on ebay for 8$ that plugs into a PC. I think it came with software too. For 8 bucks would i be able to do everything? Right now i need to clear an airbag code. Also, what kind of scanner covers the most cars? Does that OBD do everything but vw audi?

What your typing on is the best scanner you can buy. The software is called a VAG COM.
Its a reverse engineered version of the factory VAS scan tool that the dealer uses, which costs around $5,000.
Go to www.ross-tech.com and get the correct cable for your car and download the software, it will pay for itself the first time you use it.
Plus if you looking to erase an airbag fault this is what you need, most OBD II scanners won't touch air bag faults.

I use ELM 327 for the early cars but VAG is the most comprehensive till you understand what the diagnostics do and what tools are required
