I have a 2000 Audi A6 Avant Quattro. My keys are in the ignition and all of the doors and trunk are locked. Will a slim jim work? Is there a way to trip the short again and possibly unlock the doors?

Also, this winter, my smash plate got smashed and demolished during a really bad snowed in drive way incident, and is no longer with us. How important is the smash plate?
Any help will be gratefully received.
