Default Sluggish acceleration

I have a '01 2.7 t auto with 92000 miles. The car has the following symptoms: Gas cap does not release pressure when opened, the check engine light turns on sporadically, and performance is a tad sluggish...
especially in top gear between 2 and 3k rpm's. Any suggestions? I replaced spark plugs and cleaned my k&n air filter three months ago... but have not replaced fuel filter.. is there any?
Thanks beforehand,
Denis

Ok, the light turns on & you never had the codes read?
My bet is, the codes will tell you what is failing.

The evap system might have a problem, can't help with out codes. Basically the car has a valve that vents the gas tank, yours doesn't appear to be working. The CEL should tell you where to look.

If you intend to keep the car for a while get a VAG-COM or a code reader.

When you changed your k&n the oil probably coated your mass air flow sensor wire. That will cause cel and sluggish performance because the MAF controls the fuel mixture and the oil coating will mix the fuel rich. Stand behind the parked running car and smell the exhaust. You will know if it is wrong by the smell. Good luck!
