I have a 96 A4 cabriolet and the interior smells like gas (not really strong, but noticeable), after I have driven it and parked it with the windows up. Sometimes, the smell of gas seems to be flowing through the vent, while I'm driving with the fan on. None of the mechanics seem to be able to figure it out [:@]. If anyone here knows what might be causing it, I would appreciate the help.

 

how much gas in the tank when u get the oder?
if it is only when full, there is prob a small leak where filler neck meets tank
gas can accum on top of tank.

have you checked all the fuel lines going throughout the whole car? maybe a leak have you noticed any spills from under your car?

 

There are no drips on the garage floor. I had the hoses checked by couple different mechanics and both places said everything is fine.

 

Pull your back seat and check if the seals around the pump and sending units are leaking.

I have the same problem. Two dealers in different states have checked and say it's common for these models. No known or easy fix. 1998 Cabriolet, 29,000 miles.

Did you find a solution? I have to leave a window down when I park. Luckily, the car is garaged.

If it's coming from teh vents, too, I'd say teh prob might be under the hood. Have you had anybody check the fuel lines to teh injectors?

 

There are no problems with fuel odors while driving. It smells of gas vapors after sitting with the windows closed.
