Hello all!

I'm browsing around forums right now, as my Toyota's motor is letting me down. I'm trying to find a replacement motor that will make my truck a little more original than the others out there.

It is an '84 Toyota Pickup, 4x4. The 4x4 is all this truck is for.

I'm browsing for an engine that can run a transmission that can run a 2-speed transfercase (4-hi and 4-lo). As I have never looked deeply into Audi, I am unsure of the adapters available, but I do know that adapters do exist for some VW engines to run Yota parts. Low-end would be nice, but the new axles will need gearing anyways, so I can make up any torque problems there. The vehicle is for the rocks.

Are there any suggestions out there?

Sorry I'm hassling you guys with a 4x4. I suspect not too many of you specialize in this arena of the motor geek world, but hope to still find help.

Well, the 1.8T is also used by VW, so you might want to look and see if those kits work with the 1.8T motor. Since it sounds like you are going for low end, I will assume the 1.8T is the engine you are looking at, because it does get most of its torque by 2000rpms.

The Audi chassis run the 1.8T longitudinally, so I'm sure it can be done.

 

The 1.6T is a turbo'd diesel, right? Kits are available for transmissions that would work.

What about the 5-pots or did Audi use many I-6s?

 

I beleive VW made a 1.6 diesel back in the day, but currently the diesel is a 1.9TDI. 1.8T is a 4cyl turbo-intercooled with plently of low end torque and not much lag. Tons of modification opportunities.

 

What cars can the 1.8T be found in?

 

97-05, excluding 2005.5 A4 97-00 is 150hp, 2001-2005 is 170hp
MkIV Jetta/Golf/GTI 180hp, I beleive
98?-05 Passat 98?-00 is 150hp 01-05 is 170hp

A saw a couple of kids drooling over a newer Audi with a bi-turbo. How's the engine and lag?
